Job Description

Job Title: Literacy Council of the Black Hills Program Coordinator

Reports to: Literacy Council of the Black Hills President and Board of Directors

​

Status: Part-time professional non-exempt

​

Note: We are in the process of fine tuning this job description and reducing the number of hours we are looking for each month. We expect the job to require approximately 40 hours a month. It is extremely flexible! Here is a summary document from our previous coordinator that outlines what a couple of weeks might look like. It really varies from week to week.

Basic Functions:

  1. Match tutors to students, maintain communication with tutors and students, and provide follow-up assistance as needed

  2. Assist in training and mentoring tutors in effective tutoring skills

    • Plan and coordinate Tutor Training in cooperation with Tutor-Student Committee

    • Assist with coordinating Conversation Classes and disseminate information

  3. Actively participate in the recruitment of tutors and students

  4. Network with other local organizations to maintain exposure for the Literacy Council with a passion for establishing connections

  5. Submit monthly written reports and attend monthly board meetings.  Assist with special events as needed.

  6. Attend Tutor-Student Committee meetings and help to prepare agenda items

  7. Maintain accurate contact information for tutors and students, monthly volunteer hours, and goal sheets sharing information using a Google Drive (specifically Docs, Sheets and Slides)

  8. Share goal sheet results and communicate regularly with Fund Development Committee

  9. Acquire familiarity with LCBH student curriculum and tutor training resources

  10. Assist with other duties as requested by the Board and as time permits
