Lattes & Literacy

Thank You for Scanning Our QR Code!

The Literacy Council of the Black Hills is raising awareness of the need to improve adult literacy. Our goal is to bring attention to the nearly 43 million adults nationwide who cannot read, write, or converse with confidence in English. Here in the Black Hills area, approximately 11,000 adults lack the literacy skills they need to get better jobs, help their children with homework, or participate fully in our community.

The Literacy Council of the Black Hills is a volunteer organization that provides free basic literacy, English as another language, and HSE/GED instruction to adults and out-of-school youth throughout the Black Hills. We recruit and train volunteers to work with adults one-to-one or in conversation classes to help them reach their educational goals.

Why was a sticker on your coffee cup?

Thank you to Black Hills Blend and Creative Coffee Company for agreeing to promote Lattes and Literacy by affixing Black Hills Literacy Council stickers to beverage cups!

Throughout November, the Literacy Council of the Black Hills will also be visiting local coffee shops to raise awareness of the literacy needs in our area and to inform community members of who we are and what we do. We will have information available about the Literacy Council of the Black Hills and hope to have chats with patrons about our mission.
